This painting will be published on my 2007 Texas Classic Gas Stations Calendar. This Store opened in 1889 and it's appearance has changed very little. It is the oldest Business in Rusk County and is located in the Stewart Community on Fm 782 Between Longview and Kilgore, Texas. The First Gas Stations were existing stores that added gas pumps and this is a great example and yes you can still gas up there!
Available for purchase:
This clump of Prickly Pear Cactus is just west of our Ranch House. Bob White Quail like to hide out in clumps of Cactus because the thorns rarely get through their thick layers of feathers and predators who would make a meal of them have little protection from the thorns.
Available for purchase:
CACTUS INN- is on Historic Route 66 in the Texas Panhandle Town of McLean. I drove every inch of old Route 66 in Texas and this is the only Classic Motel that hasn't either been modernized to the point of not looking old or is not in ruins, The big tall Cactus is a real eye catcher!
Available for purchase:
Painting Size 12" x 20", Outside Frame Size 19"x 27" Price $1450. This Black Tailed Jack Rabbit is one that I photographed here on our Ranch. I'm not sure if it is the same one that used to tease one of our dogs into chasing him, only to humiliate the dog with his speed and agility. After a few chases the dog gave up and refused to chase the rabbit.
Available for purchase:
This clump of Prickly Pear Cactus is behind our Ranch House and is quite showy in the spring when it is in bloom and surrounded with wildflowers!

Cafe 290 opened in 1949. It is located at 11011 Hwy. 290 E. in Manor, Texas! The Charcoal Gray and Pink sign took me back to the 50's when those colors were "all the rage"!

I was walking my dogs one morning when I heard a loud racket coming from one of our Stock Tanks so I sneaked thru the brush to see what was there and was surprised to see Canada Geese on the water. I don't recall ever seeing Canada Geese this far south!
Available for purchase:
The Caravan Inn is in Arlington, Texas at 908 East Division Street. Division Street is part of the Old Fort Worth to Dallas Highway and this lots of Memories dot this stretch of road. There is another Caravan Inn in Fort Worth but this one just screamed 1950's! I combined the signs from both Fort Worth and Arlington in this painting.
The Caravan Inn is on the Historic Bankhead Highway!

I was feeding my cattle one morning when this Cow and her Calf caught my eye. Like all babies the Calf was curios about everything and like any good mother, the Cow was intent on securing the safety of her baby. As I got a little too close the Cow charged me and I had to duck behind our Bull for safety. I was amused by the paradox of the situation in that I was hiding behind a Bull, normally considered to be an aggressive beast, (our Bull is as tame and gentle as they come) while being pursued by a Cow, normally considered to be a passive creature! When the unexpected happens as surely it will, I have found that it is much easier to deal with if I can find something about it that is amusing or humorous.
Available for purchase:
CATALINA MOTEL - is on East Hughes Street in Wichita Falls which prior to the new Freeway was the Grand entry to Wichita Falls from Dallas and Fort Worth and was lined with Fancy Restaurants and Motels to greet Weary Travelers. Today the Catalina is the only one still operating and I thought some Pontiac Catalinas out front would be really Cool!

This barn is on a ranch near Vanderpool, Texas but the Longhorn lives out at our place and his name if "Fajita". One day as he was standing there hollering "feed me" I took the photograph that I worked from in this painting!

This Title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my prints. "Last December, I went fishing with Mike Lairsen in the Laguna Madre near Rio Hondo, Texas and as we were heading for the open water following a couple of other boats, he asked me what my next fishing Painting would be and I replied "you're looking at it". The boat we were following didn't appeal to me so I substituted a boat from another fishing trip near Rockport.
Available for purchase:
Although the Red Tailed Hawk has a reputation for speed, he's slow when he takes off and he flies in a straight line. Scissortail Flycatchers have a mischievous nature and enjoy catching a Hawk resting. Knowing the Hawk's flying habits, the agile Scissortails will harass the hawk until he can gain altitude and dive with all of his speed, leaving his tormentors fluttering up in the sky!

This is a scene I painted from memory of the place where Bull Creek flows into Lake Austin. When I was young I traveled many times to Boy Scout Camp and remember a farm by the lake. All of this now well inside Austin's City limits!

On a chilly February morning any place with water will have fog rising from it, and a mysterious quality that I always find fascinating. These trees are next to one of our stock tanks.
