We rescued this Great Horned Owl from a Tangle of Barbed Wire and I took some pictures. I placed him in an Old Dead Hackberry Tree and since Owls are a symbol of Wisdom, I thought this title was appropriate!

When this building was new it was the site of the Hallettsville city hall and fire station. The building was built by Ball Construction Company of Brenham. The building was dedicated on July 9, 1926.

Available for purchase:

The Cole Theater is just south of the Courthouse Square in Hallettsville, Texas and was built in 1929. The Movie “The Texans” was filmed at Cotulla, Texas in 1936. Walter Brennan was a lot younger when the movie was released, but I thought he would be more recognizable at the age he is, in the 38 Ford!

This is a scene on the Hiking Trail at Hamilton Pool Preserve at Dripping Springs, West of Austin. I did a little rearranging for composition and added the Great Blue Heron. This is one of many canyons in the Hill Country that are loaded with Bald Cypress Trees.

Available for purchase:

HAMILTON POOL is a collapsed cavern and quite an awesome sight! To give you some scale the Waterfall is about 50 feet high and I’ve only shown about a third of the overhang! Hamilton Pool is a Travis County Park west of Austin on Hamilton Pool Road which runs off of Bee Caves Road. The Pool is accessible with a 2 mile hike over some rough terrain and Swimming is allowed!

When I ran on to this Buzzard Roost Barn between Purvis and Carlton, Texas I thought to myself, "this would make a humorous statement about Southwestern Style Art". I've had a lot of fun telling some of my Artist friends that I've finally broken down and painted a "Santa Fe" style Painting! You cant see it online but the little sign on the gate says "Caution, Rattlesnakes in this Barn". I wouldn't go in there, would you?

Available for purchase:

is north of Stephenville on State Highway 108 and I stumbled on to it while looking for something else. I took some liberties and added the Watermelon Man, the Humble sign and the 1948 Ford Coupe (like the one I drove in High School) to the Painting.

Available for purchase:

Neils Creek marks the back property line of our ranch and this waterfall is just south of our property. These are three of our Longhorns that were drinking from one of our stock tanks but I took a little liberty and put them at the creek!

I was driving between Burnet and Lampassas, Texas when this rusty old Chevy Truck with a bed full of Prickly Pear Cactus caught my eye. I don't know if the owners planted the cactus or if it grew there naturally but I couldn't resist painting it. I added the blooms on the Cactus and the Bluebonnetts and Primrose for a little color! P.S. I met the owner later and he said he put the cactus there!

This is the Bay side of South Padre Island at low tide and is a scene that I've been wanting to paint for some time but the composition just hadn't formed in my mind until I was looking thru some photographs from a fishing trip in the Laguna Madre and remembering heading back into Port at dusk and this is the result!

Available for purchase:

This is a scene from one of our barns that has the skulls of four of our Longhorn steers hanging from the support posts. The symmetry of the post Skull and roof caught my eye and I immediately imagined a Texas Flag painted on the Skull!

Available for purchase:

has been on the Waco Traffic Circle since 1949 and the name seems to be coming back around to popularity again, what with the atkins diet and all! Waco has one of the few if not the only active Traffic Circles left in Texas that still looks like stepping back in time!

Available for purchase:

This is a scene from my imagination but the Church is real, except that I can't remember where I was in 1977 when I photographed it! It is somewhere in Texas on flat land, not hills as I show here, can anyone tell me where it is? (Since this writing I found the Church at Panna Maria, Texas)

Available for purchase:

This is our porch and when it rains we can usually count on Wild Birds seeking refuge, unless our not-so-wild cats get there first, in which case the birds will be found at the tops of the columns!

Available for purchase:

This fellow is Chuck Naiser who introduced me to bay fishing at Rockport, Texas. I don't believe there is anyone who likes fishing more than Chuck; at least not anyone I've met. About once a year he drags me through every bay in Aransas County and sometimes we even catch a fish.

Available for purchase:

Buzzards are very social creatures and from my observations, seem to really enjoy their lives. They are extremely graceful creatures in flight and God has given them many gifts including a very long disease free life. They are only birds with a sense of smell and have a very important role in the balance of nature.

Available for purchase:

This is from South Padre Island where the fishing is hard to beat. Padre Island Natural Seashore stretches for over 100 miles from Corpus Christi to Brownsville, Texas and is one of the nation's longest unspoiled beaches.

Available for purchase:

The Texas Theater is just south of the Courthouse Square in Hillsboro, Texas and was built in 1926 and got it’s current facade in 1940. Giant was filmed in West Texas near Marfa and was James Dean’s last movie before his accidental death in 1955. Although James Dean died in 1955, I thought he would look cool in a 57 Chevy, parked between his costars!

For some people, that daily trip to the mailbox is their only contact with the rest of the world. I was driving between Waco and Temple, Texas when I saw this old fellow getting his mail; although he must have been aware of me photographing him, he never let me know it and walked on back toward his home. His house wasn't as interesting as he was so I substituted the one in this painting, which is the Wolf House on East First Street in Austin.

Available for purchase:

Christmas 1985. This is our Ranch House near Clifton, better known in the area as Highview. As we anticipate the changes we are about to embark on we feel sadness about leaving our home in Austin, and joy about starting again with so much beauty surrounding us. Most of the worthwhile things in life have their own special mixture of sadness and joy. If all things were joyful we wouldn't fully appreciate them for there would be nothing to compare with or strive for!
