There is another Caravan Inn in Fort Worth but this one just screamed 1950's! I combined the signs from both Fort Worth and Arlington in this painting.

I was feeding my cattle one morning when this Cow and her Calf caught my eye. Like all babies the Calf was curios about everything and like any good mother, the Cow was intent on securing the safety of her baby. As I got a little too close the Cow charged me and I had to duck behind our Bull for safety. I was amused by the paradox of the situation in that I was hiding behind a Bull, normally considered to be an aggressive beast, (our Bull is as tame and gentle as they come) while being pursued by a Cow, normally considered to be a passive creature! When the unexpected happens as surely it will, I have found that it is much easier to deal with if I can find something about it that is amusing or humorous.

This Title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my prints. "Last December, I went fishing with Mike Lairsen in the Laguna Madre near Rio Hondo, Texas and as we were heading for the open water following a couple of other boats, he asked me what my next fishing Painting would be and I replied "you're looking at it". The boat we were following didn't appeal to me so I substituted a boat from another fishing trip near Rockport.

Although the Red Tailed Hawk has a reputation for speed, he's slow when he takes off and he flies in a straight line. Scissortail Flycatchers have a mischievous nature and enjoy catching a Hawk resting. Knowing the Hawk's flying habits, the agile Scissortails will harass the hawk until he can gain altitude and dive with all of his speed, leaving his tormentors fluttering up in the sky!

As I watched this Cardinal perched in a Cedar Tree while it snowed, I couldn't help thinking it was Christmas Colors in motion. When one of those special moments comes along I always wonder how many others I've missed by not really looking. Every day can be filled with special moments if we expect them and are determined to find them.

In the Summer of 1992 at the Fiesta Del Concho in San Angelo, Texas, I was told about a ranch that had a restored wooden Eclipse Windmill. Since Windmills were to be the theme for my 1993 Calendar, I thought an Eclipse would be great to include since the Eclipse and similar wooden Windmills were the ones that won the Old West! I found this Eclipse Windmill between Eola and Millersview and shot an entire roll of film to make sure I got it right. I took that roll of film and several others to the Drug Store to be sent off to be developed and when they came back from the lab, there was no Eclipse Windmill and one of the rolls of film was totally blank and had an apology note from the lab. It was almost publishing time and I had several other good painting ideas so I went to press without including the Eclipse in my calendar. After my Daughter Kim's wedding we took several more rolls of film to the Drugstore to be developed and when I picked them up, there in the batch were the Eclipse Windmill photographs and I guess I'll never know what was on that blank roll of film. I was planning to use the Eclipse Windmill for the December Calendar Picture because it's colors are Red and Green but since the Photo Lab changed my plans, I decided to use it as my annual Gift Print that I send out each year!

While driving to see relatives on "Christmas Eve" between Austin and Yoakum, Texas, a route I had traveled hundreds of times and a scene I had seen many times, but never after several days of rain and from just the perfect angle. The reflected image of the house only lasted a split second but from a moving car, I memorized what I'd seen.
