This was painted from memory of the way the ground looks behind our house after a hard rain, but I made up the house and barn. Everything from the dancing light of the reflections in the puddles to the fresh smell of the moisture laden air seems to reinforce the life sustaining quality of a good rain.

This title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my Prints. This Spring (2012) was one of the best for Wildflowers and the Indian Blankets or Fire Wheels were gorgeous. I was driving along and happened to glance off the road for a brief moment to see several horses in a Field of Indian Blankets.

Martha and I found this Wild Turkey Gobbler lying in the road one morning and we had apparently interrupted a Bobcat's breakfast. I've always wanted to paint a Turkey in flight so we spread his wings and I took photographs. That's our house in the background but we don't have a windmill.

This title is the result of my annual Contest to name one of my Paintings! This great sunrise is one of many that I've seen from my Front Porch that have inspired me over the years. I added the Windmill, Ground Fog and the farm in the background.

As I watched this little fellow on his father's horse this summer at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion, I tried to imagine the things he was thinking; was he chasing bandits; winning a championship rodeo; riding the pony express? I remembered some of the daydreams I'd had as a child and wondered why we seem to fantasize less as we grow up. It occurred to me that at a time such as childhood when we have the least amount of control over our lives we use our imagination much more. Because I make my living using my imagination I sometimes take for granted the great release this state of mind can provide and I can't help but wonder how much better life could be for everyone if simple daydreaming were encouraged more by our society.

Dayflower (Commelina erecta, Spiderwort family) blooms from May to October in shady places throughout Texas and the Blossoms seldom last more than a day and are replaced by continuous new blossoms. If the blossoms are picked the petals turn into a pulpy liquid. Also called Job's Tears, Widow's Tears and Elephant Ears. The Dragonfly is probably a Western Widow but I'm not sure, there are so many different color variances.

This is Dogwood time in the Big Thicket of East Texas, a pine forest as large as New England and always overlooked by those unenlightened clods who describe Texas as a desert wasteland.

Early one Morning I was walking back from feeding our Ducks at one of our stock tanks and I saw Deer grazing in the morning mist with our John Deere Tractor in the foreground and I thought it would make a good painting so I moved the Deer up closer and this is the result!

The Campus Theater is Just off the Courthouse Square in Denton, Texas and was built in 1949. Bonnie and Clyde was filmed in the Denton area in 1967 and the Premier for the Movie was shown at the Campus Theater. The real Bonnie and Clyde were known to have frequented the area so I used some old photos of them for this painting.

The Hills on the horizon are known as the Devil's Backbone and are a stretch of hills that run from Wimberly to Johnson City, Texas. This view is about 20 miles north of Johnson City and I added the Dirt road and old rock house, barn and windmill to make a better picture.

This Waterfall is just upstream from the Devil's Waterhole at Inks Lake State Park and I added the Longhorn Steer for Scale. This is my first Painting to include Granite rather than the traditional Texas Limestone!

I was supposed to go fishing with Chuck Naiser at Rockport but a storm was brewing and the water was too rough to fish so we decided to cancel. Later I was driving along Fulton Beach and was amazed by this fellow out on a pier, seemingly oblivious to the waves that were crashing across the pier. He must have wanted to fish more than we did!

in the 2800 block of Guadalupe, an Austin legend since 1926. Actually named Martin's Kumbak Place, It's been called Dirty's by the locals for generations. "Dirty's" is rather sentimental to me because when I was a teenager, I lived about a block away and my best friend Roy Schafer lived in the apartment above the Restaurant. Many Saturday and Sunday Mornings we would clean the parking lot and would be paid with a Cheeseburger and a Malt!

DIXIE PIG is located in Abilene, Texas at 1403 Butternut Street. The Dixie Pig first opened in 1931 and moved to it’s present location in 1941. The restaurant expanded to it’s present size after a new wing replaced its Drive in canopy. I had breakfast there a couple of years ago and enjoyed stepping back in time. - GEORGE BOUTWELL

Dolan Falls is in a very remote area on The Devils River near the Devil's River State Natural Area which is 22 miles off the pavement on a dirt road between Del Rio and Sonora, Texas. The Nature Conservancy owns the property and controls access to the Falls. 22,000 gallons of cold water per minute gush from Dolan Springs above the Falls. I'm told that the Spring has never stopped flowing! I added the Cowboy and Cattle for cscale and because this area was once a Ranch!

These are not Pigs or Wild Hogs, they are Javelinas or Collared Peccaries and are not even related to Pigs. Javelinas are a Native species that are found in arid regions of Texas and the Southwest. They eat mostly Cactus and Insects and rarely weigh over 40 pounds. A friend of a friend had a pet Javelina and I shot lots of photographs!

One of the best places to observe wild turkeys or any other wild creatures is near water because although they may vary their feeding areas they always come back to the water to drink!
