DAYFLOWER AND DRAGONFLY

Painting completed in: 1987

Dayflower (Commelina erecta, Spiderwort family) blooms from May to October in shady places throughout Texas and the Blossoms seldom last more than a day and are replaced by continuous new blossoms. If the blossoms are picked the petals turn into a pulpy liquid. Also called Job's Tears, Widow's Tears and Elephant Ears. The Dragonfly is probably a Western Widow but I'm not sure, there are so many different color variances.
