was built in 1954 as the Home Dancehall of Hoyle Nix and the West Texas Cowboys. Hoyle Nix, best known for his recording of "Big Ball's in Cowtown" toured and recorded with Bob Wills and was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame. After Hoyle's passing, his son Jody, also a Fiddle Player, took over as the leader of the Band and they perform on a Regular Basis at the Stampede. The Stampede is in Big Spring, Texas, just off FM 700 on State Highway 350.

Like a line from an old classic song about Texas, "The Stars at Night are Big and Bright,"Deep in the Heart of Texas" I painted this in Public, from memory at my show in Ruidoso, New Mexico

Theo's Drive in is in Grand Prairie, Tx and is on the Historic Bankhead Highway (first paved road across America!) which will be the theme of my 2015 Calendar. Texas has more miles of the Bankhead Highway than any other state and much of it is still drive able!

This Birdbath is in our yard and has the little Bird Statue attached. This pair of Cardinals are not sure what to make of this strange Bird!

These were three of our Longhorn Steers early one morning! Longhorns are the Official Large Animal of Texas and are descendants of the Moroccan Cattle that were abandoned in Mexico when the Spanish Conquistadors sailed back to Spain.

These are some of our Longhorns that have all since died of Old Age and the Rock Formation is called Bee Rock and is a prominent Landmark in Bosque County where we live. The cowboys are moving the Cattle to a new pasture where the grass is greener!

This Waterfall is located on Tonkawa Creek within the City Limits of Crawford, Texas, “home of the Former Western White House” and is the center piece of the Crawford City Park. I left out the Street Bridge that is directly above the Falls and added the Bluebonnets on the Bank because it was April when I went to the Falls to take my reference photos. Maybe I’ll give them the idea to plant some Bluebonnets there!- GEORGE BOUTWELL

Several years ago I took off from my busy schedule to photograph a Roundup, but it turned out to be a rainy day. I was very disappointed about wasting the day so I took a few photographs and left. While reorganizing my files, I stumbled on to the photographs and realized, I hadn't wasted the day after all.

This Painting was inspired in March of 1995 while I was getting the mail, when we had to have had one of the wettest spring seasons ever. Although this isn't our place in the picture, it's what was going through my mind at the time.

is on Burnet Road in Austin and was opened in 1961 when I was a Senior in High School under the name of Burkhardt"s and was later sold to the current owners and changed to Top Notch , the name by which it has been known for most of its time in Business.

This is one of our Longhorn Steers that we've watched grow up. Longhorns are tough enough to survive the harshest conditions and can gain weight on pasture poor enough to starve less hardy cattle.

I've always been amazed by the Majesty and power of Thunderstorms! This painting was inspired one spring afternoon while watching an approaching wicked looking Thunderstorm from our backyard. I made up the landscape, Road and Farm to show the scale of the Storm.

This is another of those barns that all of the Artists paint and it's between Rio Vista and Morgan, Texas. The house is near Waxahachie and I saw the Father and Son unsaddling their horses at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion!

This old Truck has been sitting in this spot at Mosheim, Texas for at least 25 years and apparently is sentimental to it’s owners or it would have sold a long time ago. The Tree in the bed is the second one to grow there as the first one was cut down and was much larger. I’ve wanted to do a Painting of it for a long time and finally “got er done”!

Available for purchase:

Live Oak Trees are in my opinion one of god's greatest creations! No two are the same but it is obvious that they are all Live Oaks1

Available for purchase:

Trees are some of the most amazing things on earth. No two are alike yet each species is easily recognized. As in all facets of nature a tree is useful from the day it sprouts from a seed until it rots and falls providing nourishment to various creatures and enrichment to the soil.

There is nothing more inspiring than a clear Texas night sky with a Full Moon and I feel privileged to live out in the country where you can see the Stars without all the competing lights of civilization. Notice anything on the Moon that's unusual? (OK, you can't see the details online so I'll tell you, "I put the shape of the State of Texas on the Moon!")

Available for purchase:

In March 1836, Mexican General Urrea set up headquarters at these Live Oak Trees which are now in the median of US Highway 77 just south of Refugio. Urrea's Army captured the Mission at Refugio and executed 30 Texans that were under the command of Captain Amon B. King. A week later, Lieutenant-Colonel William Ward and his Georgia Battalion of 100 men surrendered to Urrea and were sent to Goliad and, along with the captured James W. Fannin and his men, all were massacred on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1836

This is a flashback to my teenage years when I spent a lot of time hanging out on Used Car Lots. This accumulation of memories portrays several of the cars Martha and I drove; our first date was in a 1950 Chevrolet, we had a 1950 Studebaker when we married and drove a 1957 Pontiac when our children were babies. I dedicate this painting to the late Jack Mason of Austin who sold me numerous Used Cars on credit with only my promise to pay and always took them back in trade when they couldn't be repaired.
