I've heard lots of stories of Cardinals looking at themselves in windows and wonder if they know who that other bird reflected in the window is.

This is the swing on our front porch and my normal morning routine is to step out of the front door and look at the sunrise. As I opened the door one morning I heard a flutter of wings and looked to the left to see a flicker of red leaving the porch and my eyes focused on the heart in the back of the swing and the idea for this painting came to mind!

There are two WaterFalls at McKinney Falls State Park and these are the Lower Falls. They are on Onion Creek Southeast of Austin and were owned by a Ranching Family that wanted them preserved and as a result donated the land to the State of Texas for use as a Park.

Christmas 1988. These are our two pet Geese and they do everything in unison as if they had two bodies and one brain, or perhaps they are just behaving like Geese. Sometimes we all fall into routines and live the way Geese do but unlike Geese we have a choice and we can change the way we act anytime we want to! We are god's most fortunate creatures to have been given such a fantastic brain, with which we can use our thoughts to change, solve problems and improve our lives!

This 20 foot high Waterfall is on the Clear Fork of the Brazos River at Lueders, Texas which is North East of Abilene close to Stamford. There are two sets of Falls about 30 feet apart and the upper falls are barely visible from below the lower Falls so I moved them up a bit to show better in the Painting. These Waterfalls are on Private property and very few of the locals even know about them. I found these Falls in the Texas Whitewater Kayaking Book and since I didnt want to take a 17 mile kayak trip, I got directions from a local Fisherman!
Available for purchase:
I painted this from memory as a preliminary study for "Shades of Twilight" which is one of my Limited Editions. My favorite time to look at the full moon is at twilight when it is magnified by the dense atmosphere at the horizon.

Most of the Whooping Crane Population Winters in the Coastal Marshes of Texas near Rockport at the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. When my wife Martha was a little girl she had a fantasy of being grown up and living in a Victorian House like the house we used to have in Austin. While standing in the front yard one morning I noticed her looking out thru the front door glass. The patterns reflected by the tree branches on the window gave the scene a dream like quality that seemed to capture "Martha's Fantasy" that became a reality.

McKinney Falls State park is a relatively new State Park on Onion Creek, just south east of Austin. My wife Martha and I first went there for "Birdwatching" which had been reported as good. The Heep Ranch, south of Austin, was homesteaded when Austin was barely more than a River Crossing. In the last five years I've done numerous paintings of the ranch for the Heep family. When I discovered this ancient saddle in one of the barns I wondered about the stories it might tell if it could. When I asked Grandmother Heep about the saddle she said it was at least 100 years old and told me of people and things in the past that she had all but forgotten!
