"Kickin up a little dust" I was flipping thru my book and stopped at the page that had my painting "Dust Bandits” and got to thinking that it would be fun to do a similar Painting with Longhorns. Martha was driving the truck and I was in the back with a sack of feed and a camera and our Longhorns were chasing the truck, hoping to be fed. We repeated this process for several days and I composed this painting from several of the photographs that I had taken and added the Cowboys behind the Longhorns using photographs that I had taken for the painting “Dust Bandits”. I miss these guys (Longhorns) since they all died of old age.

This painting was published on my 2006 Texas Spanish Missions Calendar. La Lomita which means Little Hill in Spanish is located near Mission, Texas, a town named after the mission, on the Banks of the Rio Grande. There were crude buildings built by traveling priests to stop and rest on their travels up the Rio Grande This Chapel was built in 1899 and is all that remains of a larger complex. La Lomita is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Available for purchase:

This Painting is of one of the windows at the La Lomita Mission in Mission Texas, and the shadow from the Shutter captured my attention to the point that I was temporarily distracted from photographing the Mission itself.

Available for purchase:

This title resulted from my annual name the print contest. The branches of the Sycamore trees reminded me of lace and since this was inspired during Desert Storm, the only houses in our area without Flags and Yellow Ribbons were probably vacant. The 58 Cadillac is from the last era when I can remember so much national pride!

Available for purchase:

Lantana (Lantana horrida and Lantana camara, Vervian family) blooms from April to October in Central and East Texas and has two varieties, one being a wildflower and the other a cultivated plant that has escaped into the wild and mingled with the wild species producing the mixed species shown here. This Texas Ebony Tree is on the Banks of the Rio Grande at the town of Los Ebanos and is the current Anchor for the only hand pulled Ferry along the United States Border. This river crossing has been used since ancient times and is the spot where General (later United States President) Zachary Taylor invaded Mexico in 1846 just months after accepting the proclamation to admit Texas as a State in the Union in 1845. In 1875 Texas Ranger Captain L. H. McAnelly and 5 Rangers, 3 Customs agents and 4 U.S. Cavalry crossed here and fought a Gun Battle with Mexican Cattle Rustlers in the town of Las Cuevas (known today as San Miguel)

I found this old Ford “Model T” Truck near Pittsburg, Texas a long time ago, but found the Pictures of it while looking for something else and decided to finally include it in a painting! The Barn was south of Hillsboro but was torn down a long time ago!

Artists like to use old wagons in their paintings, but I think that old pickups will some day be as popular to paint. There is something about the texture of old rusty things that I find irresistible!

One Coyote will jump up and chase the rabbit right into the mouth of one of the other Coyotes in the circle!

This was at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion as I was watching the activities behind the arena in preparation for the rodeo.

Available for purchase:

According to reliable records the world's first Rodeo was in Pecos, Texas in 1883! Some disagree but since they are not Texans it's reasonable to question their credibility! This Roper was actually practicing at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion but I liked the action so much I placed him in the Arena!

Available for purchase:

is 100 miles from our Ranch on State Highway 6. More accurately it’s on the North Side of Calvert, Texas and once again I have eliminated an asphalt road, just for aesthetics! Calvert is a really neat old town from the days when Cotton was King.

Available for purchase:

Rainbows are always special events but the best ones are usually in early morning or late afternoon because of the low angle of the sun. I've never met anyone who didn't feel good when they saw a Rainbow and I think they must have been designed to cheer us up!

This was inspired at South Padre Island. I'm always fascinated by the patterns in the sand etched by the almost constant wind. Sunrises on the beach are almost always inspiring!
