This painting wAS published on my 2007 Texas Classic Gas Stations Calendar. This Store opened in 1914 and it's appearance has changed very little. The First Gas Stations were existing stores that added gas pumps and this is a great example!

The Ponca Motel is at 3101 South First Street in Abilene Texas and looks like it may have been built in the 1930's due to it's Mission Style Facade. I first Heard about the Bankhead Highway in a conversation about the Ponca Motel. I was in a Duck Blind in the Mangrove Swamp behind the 1857 Aransas Pass Lighthouse and watched the sunrise and took several pictures as the light changed. The winter colors here are only brown if there has been a hard freeze, which was the case when I was there.

Prairie Dell is a small farming village beside IH 35 between Austin and Temple, Texas and has provided me with numerous ideas for paintings, one of which was "The Encounter from my first set of Color Prints. This Painting was printed as my annual Christmas Gift Print that was sent to everyone who has made a purchase in the last three years! This painting was inspired on the same day as my new limited edition "When Fences Were Few". My attention was captured by the Mother Buffalo's beard tenderly covering the back of the Calf as it nursed.

This painting will be published on my 2006 Texas Spanish Missions Calendar. Presidio La Bahia is at Goliad and the first thing they will tell you is that it is not a Mission. I thought it belonged in the Mission Calendar because it was vital to the mission and an integral part of mission life. Presidio Nuestra Senora de Loreto La Bahia del Espiritu Santo was Established in 1749. 342 Texans were executed here on Palm Sunday in 1836, providing the Texan Army with plenty of motivation for their Victory at San Jacinto! It is considered to be the best reconstructed Presidio in the United States!
