"PLEASANT SURPRISE" I was standing by our back yard gate looking at the blossoms that had exploded on a Texas Sage Bush after had rained and was thinking that it would make a good painting if I added a Hummingbird. Suddenly a Hummingbird appeared and was feeding on the nectar of the flowers. After such a coincidence, I just had to do this Painting

The Ponca Motel is at 3101 South First Street in Abilene Texas and looks like it may have been built in the 1930's due to it's Mission Style Facade. The Ponca Motel is on the Historic Bankhead Highway which was the first Transcontinental Paved Highway that ran from Washington DC to San Francisco, California. I first Heard about the Bankhead Highway in a conversation about the Ponca Motel. The Bankhead Highway passed thru Texas fron Texarkana to El Paso and Texas has more Miles of the Bankhead Highway than any other State!

This is Fredonia, Texas on State Highway 71 between Llano and Brady and although you won’t find the Gulf sign there now, it was there 20 years ago and the Mustang and the Cowboys weren’t really there, but I thought they should be.

I was in a Duck Blind in the Mangrove Swamp behind the 1857 Aransas Pass Lighthouse and watched the sunrise and took several pictures as the light changed. The winter colors here are only brown if there has been a hard freeze, which was the case when I was there.

Prairie Dell is a small farming village beside IH 35 between Austin and Temple, Texas and has provided me with numerous ideas for paintings, one of which was "The Encounter from my first set of Color Prints. The inspiration for this painting is actually on the next farm to the barn I painted in "The Encounter".

This Painting was printed as my annual Christmas Gift Print that was sent to everyone who has made a purchase in the last three years! This painting was inspired on the same day as my new limited edition "When Fences Were Few". My attention was captured by the Mother Buffalo's beard tenderly covering the back of the Calf as it nursed.

Every year I know spring is about to happen when the Redbud and Plum trees burst into bloom. These two trees are beside a barn just down the valley from us but I substituted a barn that is near Crawford, Texas because it was a little more battered and worked better in the painting!

This Second Empire Style Courthouse is on the square in Marfa, Texas and was built in 1886 and designed by Alfred Giles. This Courthouse is at the end of a wide Boulevard and is sited much like the State Capitol.

This painting will be published on my 2006 Texas Spanish Missions Calendar. Presidio La Bahia is at Goliad and the first thing they will tell you is that it is not a Mission. I thought it belonged in the Mission Calendar because it was vital to the mission and an integral part of mission life. Presidio Nuestra Senora de Loreto La Bahia del Espiritu Santo was Established in 1749. 342 Texans were executed here on Palm Sunday in 1836, providing the Texan Army with plenty of motivation for their Victory at San Jacinto! It is considered to be the best reconstructed Presidio in the United States!
