This Title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my Paintings! This painting is the result of a dream that I had and although there is nothing new in the painting I'm not aware of any painting that has combined the elements in this painting in this way.

These two Longhorns belong to us and they are grazing near a patch of wildflowers on our ranch that had Indian Paintbrush ranging in color from yellow to violet mixed with Bluebonnets. Martha and I figured that a rainbow must have touched down on this spot!

This scene was inspired near Hillsboro, Texas where farming is a major industry. Assuming a Farmer is smart and experienced, he can probably deal with such things as insects, diseases, high costs and low profits, but if he is to have a crop at all, the weather conditions have to be right and all a farmer can do about the weather is pray!

Available for purchase:

The Whistle Stop Cafe is located at 904 S. Hwy 81 (old Fort Worth Highway)in Decatur, Texas It is part of a complex which includes the Petrified Wood Station, (Featured on my 2007 Gas Station Calendar and available as a print) genuine antique Tourist Courts and another building now used for offices. All are made of petrified wood and have been in the same family since the 1930's!

Snow is a rare treat in Central Texas and it usually melts before you can get tired of it. This scene was across the highway from our ranch as I was leaving for an Art Show and I painted it from memory while I was at the show.

Available for purchase:

White Motor Co. is in it's original 1929 Building on the Bankhead Highway (currently US 80) in Stanton, Texas and has been operating since 1929 and by the same family since 1949. I changed up the Modern Plate Glass windows to look more like the 50's era that I portray in this Painting.

Available for purchase:

I have always wanted to get close to the Whooping Cranes and was able to this last winter, thanks to Chuck Naiser of Rockport who is normally a Fishing Guide . The Whooping Cranes were almost extinct but have made a steady comeback to over 300 birds in recent years.

Available for purchase:

Wild Petunia (Ruellia nudiflora, Acanthus family) as it's commonly called, is not really a Petunia, the true name is Violet Ruellia and it blooms from March to December in most of Texas except the Panhandle. The Differential Grasshopper, although interesting to look at can consume sixteen times its bodyweight in a single day and is a threat to agriculture when too many are present.

This painting was inspired on the Willow City Loop outside of Fredericksburg, Texas. The mountain is on the loop and I made up the old Homestead!

This Painting was printed as my 2008 annual Christmas Gift Print that was sent to everyone who has made a purchase in the last three years! Shortly after Martha and I purchased the Ranch we traded Art for Ten Longhorn Calves and Four Horses. Just about all animals (we Humans included) Seem to have a social order where each member of the group has to find their place. Of the ten Longhorn Steers "Wimpy" ended up at the bottom of the list and had to wait until the others finished eating or drinking for his turn. I related to "Wimpy" as I had been in a similar role many times in my youth and often gave him some extra feed to make up for his being in last place. As the years wore on and the Longhorns got older, they were less likely to shove him around. (I can think of lots of parallels in my life as we all got older) At about 15 years; Old Age in Cattle years; our Longhorns began to slowly die off, one by one until at 22 years Wimpy was the last one standing and became the "Lead Steer" by default. Our other cattle (Non Longhorns) seemed to really admire Wimpy and treated him with much respect because of his 6 feet or so of curving horns. We expected to find him dead at any time but he hung on for another four years savoring his well earned position in the herd and making up for his troubled youth. Wimpy passed away at 26 years old, in August of this year and we truly miss seeing him every morning.

The Sand Dunes at Padre Island are possibly the best on the Texas Coast and I've spent hours exploring the constantly changing patterns sculpted by the ever present Sea Breeze!

Available for purchase:

is on U.S. 281 about 25 miles south of Wichita Falls and this store stopped me in my tracks as I was heading for an Art Show in Amarillo/ I replaced some newer vehicles with more appropriate ones, including the 1957 Pontiac we used to own!

Available for purchase:

This is from a fishing trip that I took with Chuck Naiser. We left Rockport and went along the bay side of Matagorda Island where the water is crystal clear. There are three Speckled Trout in the foreground, eyeing the lure that is moving thru the water and the fish that grabs this prize is the loser!

Available for purchase:

Last year we had a snow and ice storm that transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland. We had so many Cardinals in our yard that one of our shrubs near our bird feeder looked like a Christmas Tree!

This title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my prints. This was inspired in late February when we had a Snow and Ice Storm that shut down most of the State for a couple of days. I got this idea while I was walking my dogs and decided walk them down to Neil's Creek at the back of our ranch.

Available for purchase:

This Romanesque Revival Style Courthouse is on the Decatur square and was designed by J. Riely Gordon and built in 1896. This Courthouse is very similar to the Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie that I've Painted for December.

Available for purchase:

This Painting is a composition from several Fishing Trips to the Backwater Bays of the Texas Coast. Chuck Naiser is the Fisherman and was the first to introduce me to Bay Fishing and later the first to introduce me to Saltwater Fly Fishing. Recently I was given a refresher course by Bud Rowland and Del Fankhauser which got me in the mood to paint another Fishing Scene. There are two Redfish and two Speckled Trout on the stringer, the light is fading fast but maybe there is time catch one more and a Full House will beat Two Pair!
