This painting was inspired this last June! Texas had Record Rainfall and as a result, record amounts of Wildflowers. Normally the Bluebonnets are the Spring Special Feature but this year the show went on way into Summer.

By July it's very hot in Texas and I thought it would be refreshing to use a snow scene and give you a chance to reflect upon the fact that the heat won't last forever.

This is from the Parade at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion although I moved the Gas Station a little closer than it exists in reality. This Parade is an annual event that includes practically everyone in the area that has a horse!

I got this idea watching Martha watering her plants on our Porch and thought adding the Cardinal was appropriate!

Available for purchase:

The purple flowers in this painting are known as Beebalm or horsemint and are very prolific in June. Although Bluebonnets are very famous in Central Texas in April, the show is only beginning because new wildflowers replace them with several more waves of color which grace the terrain well into summer.

This is one of my small originals that I liked and decided to enlarge it for the Calendar and it looks a little more impressionistic than my normal work!

Available for purchase:

My Motorhome was broke down for four days on the Walmart Parking Lot in Rockport, Texas waiting for a part to arrive so I sat and painted this from memory!

Available for purchase:

This Striped Skunk seems to be stopping to smell the flowers but is more likely looking for food! Our dogs have a habit of finding these Critters early in the morning on our walks on the Ranch and we always hope they are smart enough to keep a safe distance!

Available for purchase:

This Second Empire Style Courthouse is one of the few buildings in Paint Rock, Texas and was designed by F. E. Ruffini and built in 1883 This is the same town that I featured in my 1997 Country Church Calendar, Notice anything familiar in this Painting?

Available for purchase:

This painting will be published on my 2007 Texas Classic Gas Stations Calendar. The Conoco Tower Station and U Drop Inn Cafe were built in 1936 in Shamrock, Texas at the Intersection of US Hwy 83 and Historic Route 66. This was the First Building in Shamrock to be built on Route 66 and it was considered to be the finest building between Oklahoma City and Amarillo! It currently houses a Museum and the Shamrock Chamber of Commerce.

This Painting was printed as my annual Christmas Gift Print that was sent to everyone who has made a purchase in the last three years! Shortly after Martha and I purchased the Ranch we traded Art for Ten Longhorn Calves and Four Horses. Being new to Ranching we had a fantasy of riding the range on horseback and working Cattle or just going for pleasure rides. We soon found out that although the Longhorns proved to be almost trouble free, the Horses were a different story. Reality was, that with our busy schedule, we rode horseback less and less until the Horses didn't want to be ridden any more and each time we tried to ride them it became a new adventure. The Two Horses in this painting, "looking so contented" were young mares and one was sure that if she wanted to change pastures all she had to do was run thru the Barbed Wire Fence, which often called for Veterinary Services. All four Horses had a talent for finding nails and other sharp objects and we frequently has small scale Rodeos removing nails from their hooves. One day I had enlisted the help of a Professional Cowboy to extract a nail from a hoof and in the process remarked to him that since we weren't riding our Horses that maybe we should sell them. He told me that he bought and sold Horses and made me an offer and before he came to his senses we had them all loaded in his trailer and Martha and I were "looking so contented" as we watched them ride off into the Sunset!

Coreopsis (Coreopsis basalis, Sunflower family) also called Tickseed, grows in the eastern half of Texas from April to August. The Giant Swallowtail Butterfly is the largest Butterfly in North America and has a wingspan from 4" to 5 1/2".

This Beaux -Arts style Courthouse is on the square at Gatesville and was designed by W. C. Dodson and was built in 1897

Stock tanks like this one at the Anchor X Ranch are quite common in Texas. During a heat wave, a stock tank often becomes a lifesaver for many wild creatures such as these Bobwhite Quail.

Available for purchase:

Prickly Pear Cactus can be a formidable obstacle for a critter trying to dine on Quail, but Bobwhites with their soft layer of feathers, seem to have no problem scooting under the cactus and out of danger. Although the Cactus is a nuisance it makes up for it with its gorgeous blossoms. The pink flowers are Phlox and the white ones are Thistle Poppies!

Available for purchase:

This title resulted from my annual contest to name one of my prints. The inspiration for this scene was on a dirt road between Yoakum and Victoria, Texas as I watched a covey of Bobwhite quail cross the road picking up gravel for their crops!

Available for purchase:

This Church is at New Belieu and was a candidate for my 1997 Texas Country Church Calendar, so since I hadn’t quite gotten Churches out of my mind, I decided to include this in my 1998 Calendar with some Cowboys, since most Cowboys I have met are religious folk. Face an angry Bull or a Cow protecting her Calf and you’ll get religion too!

Available for purchase:

This is one of those Horse before the Cart Paintings where I wanted to use the Sunburst in a Painting so I came up with an idea to justify it. The Cowboy is Morris Vann of Lampassas who gave me the privilege of riding in a round up several years ago!

Available for purchase:

This last year at our annual open house we picked some wildflowers from the field behind the house and made some centerpieces. After looking at this for a couple of days I decided it would make a nice painting.
