I found this Adobe Barn at Balmorhea in West Texas, complete with the old John Deere Tractor. The only change I made to this scene was to move the Davis Mountains to the north side of the barn. I know, it would have been easier to turn the barn around but this way I can say that I've moved mountains!

This Painting was printed as a Christmas Gift Print and was given to everyone who had made a purchase in the previous three years! I was riding the Port Aransas Ferry and noticed this White Pelican riding the wake. The Ferry was churning up small creatures which were being eaten by small fish. Mr. Easy, our Pelican friend, was effortlessly scooping up the small fish. While the other Pelicans were off flying and diving and working hard, Mr. Easy was making a living with very little effort. I wondered if he would be able to fly north with the other Pelicans after having it so easy and getting out of shape or if he would just stay put and take it easy all of the time. I got to wondering if I might be working too hard chasing my dreams when I could be taking it easy doing something more conventional but then realized that I would probably be bored and was thankful that God had given me a mind of my own with the ability to ponder such things!

This will be included in my 2014 Texas Wildlife Calendar. We hand raised this Squirrel when our children were little. He was our pet and his name was "Squirmy"

In March I went fishing with my friend Chuck Naiser in Rockport. We met artist Herb Booth and his son Jimmy, and all went searching for fish in Chuck's boat. We tried hard but the fish just weren't biting and soon my attention wandered to the patterns of the mud flats and water!
Available for purchase:
Mudholes in the road can either be obstacles that block the way or mirrors that reflect infinity. In life, many obstacles or "mudholes" prove in retrospect to be glistening memories that last eternally, because they were conquered or solved and have become triumphs!
Available for purchase:
This Giant Swallowtail Butterfly seems to have a decision to make, will it be Brown Eyed Susans, Wine Cups,Wild Petunia (Violet Ruella), Prairie Verbena, Antelope Horns (Milkweed), or Sensitive Briar for his morning meal?
Available for purchase:
That's Cecil Duncan on the left and Chuck Naiser on the right and we were fishing out of Rockport, Texas and frankly no records were broken that day! This has got to be the most honest fishing painting that's ever been done and if you can't relate to this, then all I can say is "you just ain't never been fishing"!

I’ve wanted to paint an Old Style Feed Store for some time. There are new ones that the owners have tried to give that retro look but this Old Feed Mill, Store is the real thing and it is located in Rio Vista, Texas, and going strong since 1946!. I have passed thru Rio Vista countless times and never saw this until I noticed a Church Steeple that looked old and went to check it out and
there a little out of view from the main road was this gem of a Feed Mill and Store! I changed very little other than adding the old truck and a few signs to an area by the door that has shelves filled with small products.

This Live Oak is on the Northeast Corner of the LaGrange Courthouse Square. In 1842, Captain Nicholas Mosby Dawson, from LaGrange, recruited about 125 men under this tree before leaving to join Colonel Matthew Caldwell of the Texas Army to resist an invasion of Texas by Mexican General Adrian Woll. Before Dawson could join Caldwell, Dawson and 35 of his 53 man force, many from LaGrange were massacred by a Troop of Mexican Cavalry. Many Soldiers have departed from the shade of this tree to defend our rights in all of the other wars since the Texas Revolution.

Frequently my paintings result from my travels around the state, however I occasionally see things in my own yard that are equally interesting. Until we had our plumbing replaced, this dripping yard faucet provided a constant water source for many of our wild friends!
Available for purchase:
Nat Wofford of Waco, Texas, owned this place on Neil's Creek in Bosque County, and invited me to come out and explore. This painting lead us to buying our ranch which is about 2 miles up the creek from this scene!

The New Sweden Lutheran Church was built in 1922 by Swedish immigrants and it’s 104 foot steeple is the tallest structure for miles around. New Sweden is located east of Austin on FM973.

This Second Empire style Courthouse
is on the square at Newton, Texas and was designed by Martin and Moodie and was built in 1902 although it is a style popular 30 years earlier referred to as the "General Grant" and is one of only two standing in Texas.
Available for purchase:
Painting Size 40" wide x 16" high, Frame Size is 51" wide x 27 high. Original Watercolor varnished with Acrylic Gel on Hot Press Watercolor Board. I guess you would have to call this a Fantasy Painting since this last Spring was so dry that the Wildflowers were scarce. I've done a couple of small paintings with two or three Texas flags painted on the Barns and Windmills and decided that I would paint one Larger.

This station was built in 1909 and is still operating! Today it is Fire Station no. 11 at 3828 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas, Texas
Available for purchase:
Norma's Cafe is located at 1123 w. Davis Street in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas and opened in 1956. Great Comfort food in a Fifties Flashback interior! Owner Ed Murph grew up close by and ate there a lot so he bought the place 30 years ago!

This title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my prints. The painting was inspired on a ranch in the South Texas Brush Country near Los Angeles, an area of the state that is home to one of the most abundant wildlife populations to be found anywhere.

Blue Jays are some of my favorite birds and often mischaracterized as undesirable. Although they are full of mischief, I believe that anyone who really watches these hilarious characters can't help but change their minds about these gorgeous and very intelligent members of the Crow family

I have always wanted to drive the River Road alpng the Rio Grande up river from Big Bend National Park and was granted my wish by David Tinsley who flew me out to Lajitas to photograph the Old Mission Ruins at Ruidosa, Texas. Except for a few changes I made, this scene is just up the river from Lajitas, Texas!
