The Pioneer Theater, built in 1945 is in downtown Falfurias, Texas and I thought "Viva Zapata" would be appropriate since it was filmed in South Texas in 1951 and was Anthony Quinn's first major role. Recognize anyone in the cars?

I found these wagon wheels leaning on a Fence near the old Rock House at the Anchor X Ranch west of Lampassas, Texas and wondered about the stories they could tell if they were able!

NAME THIS PAINTING WINNING TITLE!
"SPIRIT OF TEXAS"
Congratulations to Leslie Petty of Cranfils Gap,
Texas for her winning title! She will recieve a Framed Artist Proof of the Painting as her prize! We will have another Name the Painting contest in 2015! I got this idea from a windmill tank near Hamilton, Texas. I used a different windmill and tank than the one near Hamilton. That's a Mockingbird in the sky to the right of the windmill. I thought Prickly pear cactus and Bluebonnetts were appropriate.

I was out feeding my cattle one splendid morning and looked to the east to see this marvelous sunrise. I wanted to feature the sunrise so I simplified the landscape that what was really there.

This Spring I found our ten Longhorns resting beneath our favorite Oak grove and this painting is the result. I wouldn't be surprised if Cattle inspired the custom of Siesta because these guys always lay down at mid afternoon for a little nap. I added the little house in the background to give this picture some depth!

Spring is such a great time to be alive, the grays and browns of winter give way to vibrant green and an explosion of multi-colored wildflowers blanket the terrain.

These Longhorn Steers lived out at our place, the tree is at Round Top and I made up the rest of the Painting! All of our Longhorns have passed away from old age and I was organizing some of my photographs and got inspired!

Any statement about Texas would be incomplete without the spring wildflowers. Although Bluebonnets are undoubtedly the most frequently painted subject by Texas Artists, I can't resist their beauty and am also compelled to fall under their spell.
Available for purchase:
There’s no way I would do a Texas Wildflower Calendar and not include Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush. The Bluebonnet, Being the Official State Flower of Texas, grows only in Texas although relatives live elsewhere. The Indian Paintbrush is a semi-parasite and taps its roots into neighboring plants to steal a little food, and it likes Bluebonnets as much as most Texans do!
Available for purchase:
Any statement about Texas would be incomplete if it didn't include the over 5,000 different kinds of wildflowers of which the Bluebonnet is the most famous. Bluebonnets, like barns and windmills always seem to inspire me!
Available for purchase:
In August this is usually wishful thinking, but every now and then we get a little afternoon shower to help settle the dust. These flowers are Golden Crownbeard, more commonly known as “Cowpen Daisies”.
Available for purchase:
This is the Old Rock Church at Norse, Texas, between Clifton and Cranfills Gap. I liked the flow of the road and landscape from the backside so I just turned the church around to show its front side. I'll bet you can't do that with your automatic camera!
Available for purchase:
A Few Years back, as I was driving near Fredericksburg, I got a glimpse of a white Horse standing in a field of Bluebonnets. I liked the ides but my mind drifted away and I forgot all about it. Recently while driving I saw a brown horse standing in a field without Bluebonnets and it triggered my memory of the white horse and I didn't forget this time!
Available for purchase:
Stanley's Barbecue opened in 1958 and is located at 525 S. Beckham Ave. in Tyler, Texas. Stanley's is Tyler's oldest Barbecue Restaurant!

Like a line from the song "Deep in the Heart of Texas", the night sky in rural Texas can be a wonder for those living in urban areas. Many times, while traveling at night, I've stopped and marveled at the millions of stars!

This title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my Paintings. This Victorian house is in Waxahachie, Texas and I painted it previously in the background in my painting, Morning Splendor. I've wanted to do a larger painting of the house for some time and finally came up with this idea!
Available for purchase:
I painted this from memory from when I was in the Boy Scouts and spent many nights camping at Camp Tom Wooten over looking Lake Austin and Bull Creek, Back in the days before everything got developed up and there were still old farms in the area.
Available for purchase:
I've gone fishing at Rockport several times with Chuck Naiser and he always tells me how good the fishing has been, but it never seems to be that way when I go with him. The last time we went fishing things were different, Chuck stepped out of the boat and caught a nice Redfish on the first cast; this set the pace for the rest of the morning and gave Chuck's previous fish stories much credibility!
Available for purchase:
These two Theaters are on Congress Ave in Austin on the Historic Meridian Highway (Originally Texas Highway 2) first north- south highway from Canada to Mexico! When I was a teenager we would ride the City Bus to Downtown on Saturday afternoon and take in a Movie! $1 would get you into the Theater, buy you a coke and some popcorn and leave enough for the Bus Fare back home!
