Prause Meat Market has been in the same family for 112 years and located at 253 Travis Street on the Courthouse Square in LaGrange, Texas. I'm told that they do everything from scratch including raising their own beef cattle!

Every year I know spring is about to happen when the Redbud and Plum trees burst into bloom. These two trees are beside a barn just down the valley from us but I substituted a barn that is near Crawford, Texas because it was a little more battered and worked better in the painting!

Available for purchase:

This Second Empire Style Courthouse is on the square in Marfa, Texas and was built in 1886 and designed by Alfred Giles. This Courthouse is at the end of a wide Boulevard and is sited much like the State Capitol.

Available for purchase:

This painting will be published on my 2006 Texas Spanish Missions Calendar. Presidio La Bahia is at Goliad and the first thing they will tell you is that it is not a Mission. I thought it belonged in the Mission Calendar because it was vital to the mission and an integral part of mission life. Presidio Nuestra Senora de Loreto La Bahia del Espiritu Santo was Established in 1749. 342 Texans were executed here on Palm Sunday in 1836, providing the Texan Army with plenty of motivation for their Victory at San Jacinto! It is considered to be the best reconstructed Presidio in the United States!

These are three of our Longhorn Steers grazing in some Pink Evening Primrose beside the road that leads to our showroom here at the ranch. Pink Evening Primrose grow in large masses in East and Central Texas from March to June.

Available for purchase:

Low Prickly Pear (Optuntia humifusa, Cactus Family) is the most widespread of several kinds of Prickly Pear that grow in Texas, it grows close to the ground and is not nearly as spiny as other varieties. The Ladybug or Convergent Ladybird Beetle is beneficial to crops and gardens because it preys on insects that damage these plants.

Available for purchase:

Mockingbirds are named for their ability to repeat or Mock other birds songs as well as other sounds that appeal to them. The Mockingbird is the Official Texas State Bird and The Prickly Pear Cactus ids the Official Texas State Plant!

Available for purchase:

If you have ever doubted that God has a sense of humor, just watch a Roadrunner for a while and all doubt will be removed. This member of the Cuckoo family really earns his nickname "paisano" for the benefits he gives by controlling snakes and other varmits!

Available for purchase:

I found this Windmill when I was wandering aimlessly in the Texas Panhandle near Post. It had Red, White and Blue Bars on the tail but I thought it needed to have a Texas Flag!

Available for purchase:

Pronghorn Antelopes are the only surviving species of an ancient group of animals and were almost extinct due to uncontrolled hunting and barbed wire. Thanks to conservation efforts, America's fastest land animal has made a strong comeback. This scene is in West Texas between Van Horn and the Guadalupe Mountains!

Available for purchase:

Opened in 1927 on Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, Texas and is still going strong! The colorful Red and White Awnings are made of canvas and stretched over a cable system which I was very impressed with! Owner Ron Patrick is pretty sure that Elvis ate there!

Available for purchase:

We've were busy this past Spring and didn't get the weed eater out to trim around this fountain in our yard. These Pink Evening Primroses bloomed all around the fountain and I think I'll wait to trim weeds from now on! This was printed as my Christmas Gift Print that I signed and numbered and sent to my Customers as a gift in 2013

Available for purchase:

This house is near Cross Cut, Texas and the 59 Caddy wasn't there but, the idea is that if you live so far out in the country that no one's ever seen your shack, you can drive to town in your Caddy and folks'll think you're a rich rancher!

Available for purchase:

(Danaus gilippus) Queen Butterflies are very similar to the Monarch and are closely related, sharing similar food and both species have toxic body fluids. Unlike the Monarch the Queen doesn't Migrate and doesn't have the bold black veins on its outside wings ( it does however have bold black veins on it's lower under wing.) This painting was inspired at the NABA Butterfly Park in Mission, Texas!

Available for purchase:

This painting will be included in my 2020 Texas Sunrise Calendar. Mornings with ground fog are almost always silent due to the stillness of the air. I painted this from memory of the frequent foggy mornings here at the Ranch.

Available for purchase:

THIS TITLE IS THE RESULT OF MY ANNUAL CONTEST TO NAME ONE OF MY PAINTINGS. "Quiet Time" appealed to me because this spot is where I stop on my morning walks on the Ranch and sit quietly and observe the wildlife that frequents this Stock Tank! Thanks to Thomas McCain of Scurry, Texas for the winning Title!

Available for purchase:

Although this house is at Cleburne, Texas, I decided to put it in the country and added this Texas Mailbox. I know that Cactus doesn't bear fruit in March but, I decided this would be appropriate for Texas Independence Day, anyway!

Available for purchase:

This was my 2014 Christmas Painting and verse: Rain Lilies have always fascinated me! There can be the most barren, parched and cracked ground that looks that way for months on end but just one good rain storm will be enough to cause the Rain Lilies to suddenly appear almost overnight. They blossom , drop their seeds and wait for the next opportunity which may be months away! In life ,we can take a lesson from the Rain Lilies, in that no matter how bleak things may seem, with patience and just a little encouragement at the right time we can suddenly blossom just like the Rain Lilies!

Available for purchase:

Ranching can be a hard way to make a living due to the uncertainties of weather, market conditions, feed supply and lots of other unforeseen problems. But if a Rancher happens to be lucky enough to have an Oil Well or two he can stay in the Ranching Business for a lot longer!

Available for purchase:

These are our ten Longhorn Steers and they would follow our pickup off a cliff if they thought there was a chance of getting to eat some range cubes when they hit the ground! The truck was at the Stamford Cowboy Reunion, the rancher is Jack Horne of Coleman, Texas and the background is how our place will look if we don't get some rain soon!
