House Park Barbecue is Austin's oldest, having been in business since 1943. They are located at 900 W. 12th Street. I ate there when I attended Austin High School (Class of 1961) which is just 2 blocks away! House Park is the name of Old Austin High's Stadium.

This was inspired on the same rare snowy day as my previous painting "Red, White, Blue and Green" and the barn shown is the same one with the Texas Flag on the side, except from the opposite side. Our cattle use this barn for shelter whenever there is a storm of any kind.

The Hyde Park Fire Station is located at 4301 Speedway in Austin's Hyde Park Neighborhood and was built in 1929. A threat to close this Station was met with a strong protest and lead to the formation of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association which became a leader in the Historic Preservation movement in Austin. We raised our children in Hyde Park so I just had to include this Station in my Fire Station Calendar!

This is somewhere on Fm337 between Leakey and Camp Wood on the Three Twisted Sisters Loop which is Fm 377, FM336 and FM335 some of the Hill Country's most spectacular scenery.

Bobwhite Quail usually have at least one of the Covey keeping watch from somewhere with a good view to watch for danger. If you see a Bobwhite perched in plain view you can usually figure that the rest of the Covey is close by. Many years ago we raised Bob Whites and I took hundreds of reference photographs!

"Kickin up a little dust" I was flipping thru my book and stopped at the page that had my painting "Dust Bandits and got to thinking that it would be fun to do a similar Painting with Longhorns. I miss these guys (Longhorns) since they all died of old age.

The Landmark Lodge Motel is at 7501 Camp Bowie West in Fort Worth and is still going strong. The neon sign is such a great example of classic signage that this motel is indeed a Landmark.

This Romanesque Revival style Courthouse is on the square at Hallettsville, Texas and was designed by Eugene T. Heiner and was built in 1897. The Gazebo was built for the filming of "The Best little Whorehouse in Texas"

This will be published on my 2014 Texas Wildlife Calendar! and prints are available Coyotes are really smart and this one is part of a hunting strategy. The pack spreads out into a large circle and they all lay down and wait until a Rabbit or other game appears somewhere in the circle. One Coyote will jump up and chase the rabbit right into the mouth of one of the other Coyotes in the circle!

The Lockhart Fire Station, located at 201 W. Market Street was built in 1914 and originally housed the Fire Department and City Hall. City hall was moved in 1988 and it is now exclusively the Fire Station.

I've rarely seen a Cactus Blossom that didn't contain a few Beetles feasting on the Nectar. This Cardinal has figured this out and is about to dine on some tasty Green Beetles!

There are two WaterFalls at McKinney Falls State Park and these are the Lower Falls. They are on Onion Creek Southeast of Austin and were owned by a Ranching Family that wanted them preserved and as a result donated the land to the State of Texas for use as a Park.

Whooping Cranes were close to extinction but thanks to conservation efforts they are on the rebound. Most of the Whooping Crane Population Winters in the Coastal Marshes of Texas near Rockport at the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. Thanks to Chuck Naiser "one of the best Guides on the Texas Coast", I had the priveledge of getting so close to the Whooping Cranes that I could see their Eyelashes!

(Siproeta stelenes) Malachite Butterflies are Tropical and regularly seen in the Rio Grande Valley and occasionally north to Central Texas. This butterfly is the only large green and chocolate colored butterfly to inhabit Texas or the United States.

MARLIN FIRE STATION #1, is located at 101 Fortune Street in Marlin, Texas and was built in 1920 and is still actively fighting fires

Martin's Barbecue opened in 1924 and the current building was built in 1939. Martin's in located at 3403 College Ave. in Bryan, Texas. As far as I know it is the only Barbecue place in Texas with a Historical Marker!

I woke up early one morning when I was showing my work in Round Top and was inspired by a large Lice Oak Tree in the mist with early sunlight across it's branches and I painted this from memory at my show over a weeks time!
